Bernard_Lewis Posted 24 January , 2010 Share Posted 24 January , 2010 Someone has asked me about whether a replacement document can be obtained. Her relative won a MM and the family holds a document 'signed' by King George V on which the MM citation appears. Was this normal practice for all MM winners? I assume that you can't get a replacement for these after all this time? Hoping someone can help. Bernard
jonny956 Posted 25 January , 2010 Share Posted 25 January , 2010 Bernard, Whilst I can not qoute the Medal Office, they did actually stop issuing WW1 medals some years ago. In light of this, I would put money on the fact that the paperwork has also stopped (notwithstanding the fact that KGV is'nt around to sign it anyway). For a definitive answer, yopur friend may wish to contact the Medal Office at Innsworth. Their contact details can be found on the Veteren's Agency website. per ardua per mare per terram Posted 28 January , 2010 Share Posted 28 January , 2010 Few of the MM citations survive, so even a damaged one is a bonus.
