I have been following medal abbreviations for over 30 years and I have yet to see one to the S.B.L. in any dealer's lists. Your buddy has a scarce medal - or rather, a scarce impressed naming. Only 69 MICs seem to exist irrespective of the relatively high service number. Looking through these - a couple of anomolies. Herman Riis is a Boatswain !! And Harry Ray/Raisin seems to be a Lieutenant in the Russian Army.

I had time to think.... I will let this medal go because it is not my main collecting interest to look single British medals for different units and anyway few VM-s I have already as a part of groups.

So, what you guys think what would be the value of this medal if I like to sell it?

I would be interested in obtaining this medal so shan't put a price on it. Your best bet is to enter it on eBay or other specialist auction house and let the market dictate.

Hi,

Thanks for your answer!

I do not use e(vil)Bay and not want to. But isn't it something way too common to offer it to the auction houses?

I was more thinkig to do a deal directly with some other collector who collecting area this piece is more then me. Also I got some interest by messages. Just before I let it go, I just wanted to know aprox value.

Anything less than 250 pounds would see you lose out.

As he appears on page one of the medal roll, and there are only 30 pages to the roll, the service number might be artificially high.

WO 329/2346 Slavo-British Legion: medal rolls SBL/101B. Pages 1-30. British War Medal and Victory Medal.

There are 3 other references on the catalogue to the legion, all 1919.
