Recently discovered which might be of interest - postcard of the destroyer HMS Plucky's soccer team having just beaten the team of HMS Ariel at Buncrana Naval base 15th July 1917.

Of particular interest is the ships 'sparker' J.W.B.Phillips seated bottom right with the towel round his neck, who had just been MID for submarine detection on the Atlantic escorts.

Quite correct Malcolm- Ariel was mined in the North Sea on 2nd August 1918 along with the Vehement.

All signals and w/t ratings were lost, including on the Ariel Ritchie O'Donnell who had struck up a friendship with Basil Phillips(HMS Plucky) when they had served as boy w/t ratings before the war on the battleship Neptune.
