Arnhem44 Posted 10 January , 2010 Share Posted 10 January , 2010 Hi again Squirrel, not sure if this is any use,no doubt some people will have the info your looking for.The link below is interesting and deals with there movements during the war, also the previous link at the bottom of the page linked to details of his next of kin and what ships he had travelled from New Zealand on,hope you find what your looking for,I find the gazette tedious at times when searching. During the battle of Messines in early June 1917, 2 ANZAC Cyclist Battalion was tasked with preparing a track from the reserve line, through the support and front lines, across no man's land and through German trenches to enable the passage of mounted troops. http://goliath.ecnext.com/coms2/gi_0199-20...-craze-AIF.html http://www.nzetc.org/tm/scholarly/tei-WH1-...1-body1-d8.html
Staffsyeoman Posted 11 January , 2010 Share Posted 11 January , 2010 Careful Careful Careful. If 'awarded' in June 17 means Gazetted (listed in the London Gazette) in June 1917, the action for which the medal was given could be several (usually about three, but it varies) months before. Arnhem44 Posted 11 January , 2010 Share Posted 11 January , 2010 Going by the title of the thread the Gazette entry is for August 1917,its the link for the N.Z.E.F Honours site says June,I think the ciation really needs to be found to clarify that one.Its nice to now that about the time between the award been awarded and the Gazette entries,of course there would of been a delay by the time it was all processed.
