Equipment Officer First Class – What does it mean?

I am researching an RFC pilot who served as a gunnery instructor and held the rank of Captain. His service file shows he was graded ‘Equipment Officer First Class’.

What does ‘Equipment Officer First Class’ mean and how does it relate to rank and duties?

Thanks

Mark

Equipment officer was a phrase covering all technical officers ie radio and armaments and as your guy was the gunnery officer he may have also been oc armoury
