fpawsey Posted 30 December , 2009 Share Posted 30 December , 2009 My husband's grandfather JOHN DAVID PAUSEY served with the 7th Battalion, Rifle Brigade in France between 13 August 1915 - 22 August 1916 as a Private. He was gassed and like so many men, spent his remaining life, 'coughing away', although he lived to reach his 76th birthday. He's also remembered as having a very gravelly voice, which once again, can probably be attributed to the gas. Three questions: 1) Would it have been 'chlorine' which gassed him? 2) How would they have treated the effects of gas? (Once back in the UK, I presume he was hospitalised. Would he, like TB patients, have been exposed to lots of fresh air?!) 3) If anyone has any information regarding the 7th Battalion, Rifle Brigade during their time in France between 13 Aug 1915 - 22 Aug 1916, I'd be very grateful.
