clivep Posted 27 December , 2009 Share Posted 27 December , 2009 I think the attached photos show someone who was in the Marines. Can anyone confirm (or otherwise) please? Does the uniform provide any other information? Thanks in anticipation
max7474 Posted 27 December , 2009 Share Posted 27 December , 2009 That is indeed a Royal Marine. He appears to have a 1908 pattern belt on and a Broderick cap. The RM retained these after the Army had decided to get rid of them in 1906.
findabetterole Posted 27 December , 2009 Share Posted 27 December , 2009 This chap is RMLI.. not Royal Marines! If you study the top of cap badge, you'll notice the shape of the LI Bugle. Seph
Jonathan Saunders Posted 28 December , 2009 Share Posted 28 December , 2009 The gentlemen in the photograph is a Royal Marine and his unit is the Royal Marine Light Infantry. The Royal Marines as a Corps did not exist at this time, not being reformed as a single Corps until the amalgamation of the RMLI with the Royal Marine Artillery in 1923.
