machodr Posted 4 December , 2009 Share Posted 4 December , 2009 Friends, can we help me with the identification of shoulder insignia (colour) on the left shoulder a soldier in the photograph. It is a Czech native member of 223rd Battalion CEF, later served in 107th Pioneer Battalion CEF as sapper. Many thanks!
Grovetown Posted 4 December , 2009 Share Posted 4 December , 2009 107th Pioneers were initially 1st Division, so it's probably red; and under 'Divisional HQ & Elements'. The full 'set' can be viewed here: CEF Formation patches However, according to this: 107th Research it's not clear that the 107th wore a patch at all, and, if so, should have CE on it. Best wishes, GT.
machodr Posted 4 December , 2009 Author Share Posted 4 December , 2009 I have pictures from the period when the man enlisted in the 223rd Bn. CEF. On them is still seven buttons Canadian uniform. At that time held the rank of corporal. In this photo we have no rank and subsequent correspondence shows that it is styled as a Sapper. I attach a photo of uniforms (not in a family owned her own museum) from end of war. On it is evident applique 1st division engineers patch. Maybe the photographer to photograph coloured, was not maintained the original color and patches easily coloured. I believe that this man I learn more from his service file, which I ordered in copies of the archives in Ottawa.
