Steven Broomfield Posted 28 November , 2009 Share Posted 28 November , 2009 Royal Engineers is most obvious, but I'm happy and prepared to be wrong.

deano Posted 28 November , 2009 Author Share Posted 28 November , 2009 Thank you gents. Is it the Engineers for both close-ups? Am i right in saying that the cap is from 1916, distinguished by the rows of stitching on the peak? if so which part of 1916 please? Dean.
Andrew Upton Posted 28 November , 2009 Share Posted 28 November , 2009 Are both close ups from the same picture? I ask as the cap badge is definately Royal Engineers, but I would swear the shoulder title is RFA (Royal Field Artillery), and not the RE it should be if worn with the RE cap badge. The bandolier and white lanyard visible at the same time would be strong support for the RFA as well. And yes, the stitching on the caps peak means it's what's known as a "trench cap", introduced in 1916.
jay dubaya Posted 28 November , 2009 Share Posted 28 November , 2009 After what Andrew has said 'Are the close-ups from the same picture?' because on looking again it appears that they may not be and the S/T could be that of the artillery beit RFA, RGA or RHA) since it looks a tad long to be RE also the lanyard and bandolier supports the roll of 'mounted' RE, Jon

jay dubaya Posted 28 November , 2009 Share Posted 28 November , 2009 In that case I'll go for the S/T being that of the artillery Jon

JulianB Posted 2 December , 2009 Share Posted 2 December , 2009 Apart from that ... is it my imagination or does the RE cap badge have a QVC ???
Andrew Upton Posted 2 December , 2009 Share Posted 2 December , 2009 Apart from that ... is it my imagination or does the RE cap badge have a QVC ??? I think it's just the crown of the cap overlapping the badge slightly.
Staffsyeoman Posted 3 December , 2009 Share Posted 3 December , 2009 Apart from that ... is it my imagination or does the RE cap badge have a QVC ??? It can't have. The Cypher is clearly GvR - trick of either the light or the retouching photographer.
