hmsk212 Posted 2 May , 2004 Share Posted 2 May , 2004 Hi I have a photo of an Essex Regiment Officer that mentions a time spent at "Fort Kom el Dick" in May 1917. I gather that this fort was in/near Alexandria. Can anyone tell me what the fort's function was, was it a training base, rest area or front line fort? Any information is most welcome. HERITAGE PLUS Posted 23 May , 2004 Share Posted 23 May , 2004 Steve Fort el Dick (or Dikka), meaning 'Hill of Rubble' was the ancient main fortification of Alexandria where there is a Roman Ampitheatre. It is a site of great archeaological importance. Could your man have been on leave and visiting? Dave
