Will O'Brien Posted 29 April , 2004 Share Posted 29 April , 2004 This is just a question I posed myself today & realised I didn't know the answer..............It is well documented that the German army provided Officers & specialists to assist Turkish operations in Gallipoli & Mesopotamia...............However, was this ever reciprocated & did any Turkish servicemen serve on the Western or Eastern front with German forces? MartinWills Posted 30 April , 2004 Share Posted 30 April , 2004 Will, I have never come across any such incidences and would think it unlikely, but cannot be definitive on this. Martin

Will O'Brien Posted 1 May , 2004 Author Share Posted 1 May , 2004 Turkish soldiers fought in Galicia, Romania, and Macedonia during 1916. Robert Robert.........That's interesting.............I guess that the relatively close proximity of the Balkan/Romanian Fronts to the Ottoman Empire made it feasible for the Turks to send troops there. I also presume they served as an independent 'Turkish' force rather than being attached to German/Austrian/Bulgarian units.
Quew Posted 1 May , 2004 Share Posted 1 May , 2004 There were some German Naval perssonel from 'SMS Emden' who ended up in Turkey at the German Embassy reporting for duty, after their ship had been sunk, around 1914-15. They had been left behind on the Cocos Islands while raiding the Britsh radio station there, they were lead by Lt von Mucke.
