Hello,

Has anyone got any information on all the badges, buttons, and other insignia worn by the 4th South African Scottish when they were with the 9th Scottish Division in WW1? Also do any members have photos depicting insignia being worn? My own knowledge on this is very sketchy.

Thank you,

Owain.

Kirby,

I have a little information about the 9th Scottish Division of South Africa.

I assume the symbol shown are the badges that were worn by the four battalions of the 1st South African Infantry Brigade, including the 4th South African Scottish: one of its companies was drawn from 1 Transvaal Scottish, the other from the disbanded 2 Transvaal Scottish:

This website gives a regimental history of the Transvaal Scottish, and it shows the Murray of Atholl tartan which the 4th South African Scottish wore:

I have tried (about one year or so ago) to find photos of original and replica WWI South African military uniforms on the internet, but I haven't had much luck, except for some of the cavalry uniforms.
