delta Posted 23 October , 2009 Share Posted 23 October , 2009 Many pals will be aware that the Glosters were authorised a back-badge, on the rear of their hats, to commemorate their action in Eqypt (c1802) when they fought back to back against the attaching French Forces. One small question, did officers and ORs were the back-badge during the Great War? Stephen

tocemma Posted 24 October , 2009 Share Posted 24 October , 2009 Hello all, I have had two Great War Gloster trench caps with back badges. The 'Slashers' did indeed wear the back badge during the whole of the war. Illustrated is the one I still have. Note the original and very uncomfortable looking split pin holding the back badge on. I have seen this several times on original Glosters caps. Mad but genuine. Regards Tocemma back badge
max7474 Posted 25 October , 2009 Share Posted 25 October , 2009 There also exists a very rare TF version with the blank scroll and a bimetal version. The dating of the bi-metal one varies between pre and post war depending on the author.

Wardog Posted 25 October , 2009 Share Posted 25 October , 2009 Going off on a tangent -was there a correct side to have the rivet side on the SD cap chinstrap? It would seem to be usualy on the right when veiwed, on modern caps as well, but would be interested to know if a regulation related to it. Cheers, Paul.
