And what unit is this man?

And.....does anyone know the this man's unit. I would say a Piper in the Gordons. His name is William Bruce and he was born in Tarves, Aberdeenshire in 1898. Beyond that I have no idea of his service.

Definately Gordon Highlanders - right cap badge, collars, sporran, he even has their distinctive black buttoned spats:

Thanks for the confirmation. Any idea what Battalion he could have been or was the uniform the same for all?

Soldiers Died lists 5 deaths for soldiers bearing the name william Bruce 1 x 1st Batt; 3 x 2nd Batt and 1 x 6th Batt. Ancestry has 14 cards to the same name. Ralph.

Thanks for this guys

He did survive the war however and opened a shoe repair business in Aberdeenshire.

If there are 14 on Ancesty is there any way to narrow them down?
