Neil Clark Posted 28 April , 2004 Share Posted 28 April , 2004 Im trying to find out about this unit which was during the Great War based in Wye. I have found a few men buried in the local churchyard who served with this unit when they died. I have found nothing on the I/Net or search engines. Thanx WE SHALL REMEMBER THEM..... Dolphin Posted 28 April , 2004 Share Posted 28 April , 2004 Neil This won't help you very much, but No 42 Training Squadron, based at Wye, was in the RAF's South Eastern Area, and was part of the 6th Wing in No 1 (Training) Group. No 42 Training Squadron probably used a variety of aircraft types. Cheers

Hi Neil, I am researching one of the men who are associated with Wye Aerodrome, Edmund Marrable, who was killed in a flying accident. I am intrigued by the fact that he is recorded as serving in the Royal Field Artillery, but is shown on the Asfordfallen website as being with the 42nd Training School. Preumably he transferred from the RFA to the RAF. I wondered if you have any information on him, please? Many thanks, Brian.
Dolphin Posted 15 December , 2007 Share Posted 15 December , 2007 Brian Lt Edmund Douglas Marrable of No 42 Training Squadron RAF (formerly Dorset Yeomanry and Royal Field Artillery) was killed in a flying accident on 26 April 1918. He was flying in Avro 504 D4394, flown by Lt Cyril Whelan, when the aeroplane collided with Sopwith Pup D4079, flown by 2Lt Alwyn Gordon Levy, also from No 42 TS. All three airmen were killed. I hope that this is useful. Gareth
