jimmyjames Posted 27 April , 2004 Share Posted 27 April , 2004 Captain Alan John MacDonald Pemberton, MC, Leinster Regiment attached Royal Flying Corps is commemorated on the family plot in Cheltenham Cemetery, though he is not listed on any memorial in the town. I would be most grateful for any details of his service with the RFC and, particularly, details of his death. With very many thanks Jimmy

Dolphin Posted 28 April , 2004 Share Posted 28 April , 2004 Captain A J M Pemberton MC was flying FE2b 5250 of No 22 Sqn RFC, with 2Lt L C L Cook as his observer, on an escort mission when he was shot down. Captain Pemberton was killed in action and Lt Cook was wounded and taken prisoner. Lt Cook was transferred to The Netherlands on 9 April 1918. No 22 Sqn lost three FE 2b crews on 3 November 1916, including the squadron commander Captain Auberon Thomas Herbert Lucas, 8th Baron Lucas and 11th Baron Dingwall, who was flying 7026 with Lt A Anderson as his observer. Capt Lucas was killed and Lt Anderson injured and taken prisoner. 2Lt W E Knowlden (P) and 2Lt B W A Ordish (O) were flying 6374 and shot down and made PoW. There are two German claims which might be 5250: Leutnant Renatus Theiller of Jasta 5 (the sixth of his eventual 12 victories before he was killed in action on 24 March 1917) and the two seater crew Leutnant Albert Dossenbach and Oberleutnant H Schilling of FAb 22 (it was Ltn Dossenbach's ninth victory - he went on to become a single seater pilot and was credited with fifteen victories before his death in action on 3 July 1917).
