Heidenopf Redoubt

Can any pals help me please. I am interested in the area behind the German front line at the Heidenkopf Redoubt. There was the German 2nd, 3rd and 4th support lines that were objectives on the 1 July 1916. Where was the German 1st line at the Heidenkopf? and the other support lines further on. The 1/8 Royal Warwicks got to a section of the 4th line twice during 1 July and twice was repulsed by German counter attack.

If someonc can clarify the area with a map it would be of great help.

Thanks

Terry

See trench map overlaid over current Bleu Series Map. Warwicks were attacking approx from numbers 2 and 3 towards number 12 across the 'Rideau de France'.

Terry

Here is a map which will give you the names of key trenches and also the location of a pair of heavy trench mortars: 'E.M.' which did a lot of damage on 1 July 1916. It dates to June 1916. There is also a fair bit of info about this place and the battle in my Germans at Beaumont Hamel.
