Mark Hone Posted 24 April , 2004 Share Posted 24 April , 2004 Bury's annual commemoration of the campaign, Gallipoli Sunday, this year falls on the anniversary of the initial landings. The Lancashire Fusiliers, whose headquarters was in Bury, played a prominent part in the campaign, including the winning of the famous '6 VCs before breakfast' by 1st Battalion at W Beach on 25th April 1915. Mark Hone Posted 25 April , 2004 Author Share Posted 25 April , 2004 The Gallipoli Sunday parade and service in Bury went off very well in beautiful sunshine. Special guests were the Lorne Scots pipe band from Canada, celebrating their regiment's 75 years of association with the Lancashire Fusiliers (now Royal Regiment of Fusiliers). As always members of the HMS Euryalus association were also there. Next year will of course see the 90th anniversary of the landings at Gallipoli and the year after that the 90th anniversary of Bury's Gallipoli Sunday commemoration. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera at the parade but will post any pictures I come across in the next few days.
