Guest Jeff Floyd Posted 24 April , 2004 Share Posted 24 April , 2004 Two merchant ships named "Iolo" were lost to submarines in WWI: Iolo, 3903 tons, on 11 Oct 1916 was captured then sunk by submarine 153 miles north from Vardo. No losses. Iolo, 3840 tons, on 17 Feb 1917 was torpedoed without warning and sunk 40 miles south by west from the Fastnet. Two men were lost and 4 taken prisoner. hmsk212 Posted 24 April , 2004 Share Posted 24 April , 2004 The IOLO that was lost on 11/10/1916 was a Non-Commissioned Collier that was on Admiralty Service as an Auxiliary Vessel. Steve
