Remembered Today:

Otago Hussars, 5th Bn. of New Zealand Mounted Rifles

This could be a unit or a uniform question, so I'll ask it on both sections of the GWF.

Would a member of the New Zealand Mounted Rifles, 5th Battalion "Otago Hussars", be likely to continue to wear his cap badge if he transferred to the Imperial Camel Corps? A picture of their cap and uniform badges is attached.

Thanks!

Probably not. The ICC had thier own cap badge and the Otagos were transfered to the Pioneer Bn in France post April 1916, then formed the Div Mtd troops in France post that.

Although there is a NZ ICC badge there is no photographic record of it actually being worn, if someone can provide a photo i know several people who will get VERY excited. However i do know of some photos of the men in the ICC wearing mounted rifle regimental badges, infact the recently published 15th and 16th ICC rolls has a photo of trooper JS Friend (killed in action with the ICC) wearing the Otago Hussars badge.

Basically when it comes to the NZ forces in WW1 and badges it is all over the shop.
