encee Posted 31 August , 2009 Share Posted 31 August , 2009 Hi,while researching my great grandfather I have discovered the name of a relative who died in france. His name was W.Ormond and from the cwgc site I have found the following Private 2nd class W. Ormond 286828,18th Tent Detachment,Royal Air force Who died age 33 on 29th December 1918 He is buried in St Server Cemetery extention,Rouen.I belive that a lot of the lads buried in this cemetery came from the the various military hospitals in the area.I have no other information so if anyone can turn up service or hospital records or any other info it would be great. per ardua per mare per terram Posted 3 September , 2009 Share Posted 3 September , 2009 His RAF service record is probably in AIR 79/2498, at the UK National Archives, Kew. This is an original record, not online, but they do offer a 'shop online' facility, click on 'request this' below. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalog...EF=air79%2F2498
captain caveman Posted 18 August , 2010 Share Posted 18 August , 2010 not sure if you still keep in touch with the site, however just to let you know I have a photo of his grave at St Sever, I noticed on my visit that his grave was apart from all he others. It was today while at work with a colleague, who is ex RAF the subject came up in conversation. As he died in December 1918 we were wondering how he died and how he came to be set to one side with the other graves. If you want the photo , of course I would be happy to e.mail on, just PM me.
