Hi GWF,

Does anyone have a convenient list of Commanding Officers at the Regiment or Brigade levels for the III and IV British Armies at the Somme on 1 July 1916?

It may not be important for your purpse but Robert Morris was in temporary command of the 1st South Staffords as the actual CO, Lt Col Robert Montomery Ovens, was away on leave.

Chris.

Thanks for the confirmation. I originally had Morris but someone 'in another place' brought up the name of Ovens. Odd time to be on leave though (compassionate grounds perhaps).

There is some uncertainty over the 11th and 12th East Yorkshires. David Bilton in 'Hull Pals' has them as 11th E Yorks Lt Col Beauchamp St Clair Ford and 12th E Yorks Lt Col Harold Robinson Pease whereas I have no-one for the 12th and Maj Hugh Robinson Pease for the 11th. Can anyone confirm?
