Was he with a certain squadron? How do I work out his squadron & what he did? Moves round a bit & in hospital a few times? If someone could shed some light on this; terrific. Thanks, Cherryboy. Post his name and number and any pics of MIC etc and I'll try to help. Stebie9173 Posted 21 September , 2009 Share Posted 21 September , 2009 I don't know what the HA->Number->Yes/No refer to I'm afraid, but the rest: 21/4/17 Admitted to No. 3 Canadian Staionary Hospital, Doullens 5/5/17 Transferred to Base at Boulogne 7/5/17 Admitted to No. 51 General Hospital at Etaples 5/6/17 Discharged to Base DHs (???) V.D.G. (usual translation is Venereal Disease, Gonorrhoea - VDH was valvular disease of the heart) 6/8/17 Admitted to No. 7 Canadian Stationary Hospital at Arques 19/8/17 Admitted to No. 7 Convalescent Depot at Boulogne 14/9/17 Adm to No. 13 Convalescent Depot at Trouville 30/10/17 Discharged to Reinforcement Base at St Omer 6/11/17 Admitted to No. 24 General Hospital at Etaples 12/11/17 Admitted to No. 2 Military Hospital at Old Park Canterbury 18/12/17 Furlough (home leave) to 28/12/17 Rejoined Reinforcement Depot. Piorun Posted 21 September , 2009 Share Posted 21 September , 2009 I believe that HA refers to information taken from or put on to Army Form "HA" and the number. Hospital Form A. Base DH - Base Divisional Hospital? RD - Regimental Duty or Regular Duty - although Chris Baker has posited that, in the RFC, it stood for Reserve Depot. Cherry Posted 22 September , 2009 Author Share Posted 22 September , 2009 Thanks Antony & Steve, Gives me a better understanding of what happened. Seems to not have done much in France apart from getting V.D. & being in hospital for the whole 7 months,(practically). His name (as Steve knows), was George McCallum Cherry, service no 23922. There's no MIC card so I can't post it. Tried to post his RFC record but couldn't work out how to do it. He was a pilot, but I can't work out what his squadron/s were, assuming he was attached to one/several, or whether he flew, or picked pumpkins. Pumpkins looks like the go. Bit disappointing; guess they can't all be heroes; got to be some rogues!. Thanks anyway fellas, Regards, Cherryboy.
Stebie9173 Posted 22 September , 2009 Share Posted 22 September , 2009 If you e-mail me by my Forum profile, I'll e-mail you back and you can send the Service Record and I'll have a look at it. This seems to be a different section to his actual Squadron postings. Steve.
Piorun Posted 22 September , 2009 Share Posted 22 September , 2009 Steve, with Cherryboy's permission, do let me know (PM) what you find. There shd be more info on postings. The records quoted seem to be from medical records only. Yours, antony
Cherry Posted 25 September , 2009 Author Share Posted 25 September , 2009 Hi Antony, You have my permission; not a problem. The more help the better. Thanks again, Cherryboy.
Stebie9173 Posted 25 September , 2009 Share Posted 25 September , 2009 The postings part of the form is on a different part of the sheet I think. I can just see part of the posting section, headed "Movement" with No. 5 Reinforcement Depot probably being his first stop. The rest of the section is cut off. What does it say there? Steve. Cherry Posted 25 September , 2009 Author Share Posted 25 September , 2009 Hi Steve, Sent you another email with hopefully the part required. Brian. Just in case; * At the end of his 7 months in France it says; Rejoined RD, then to 5 RD (departing authority-RDO 9); 10/4/18. then 5 RD to Sch.Inst.Henley (departing authority-5 RD of 30?); 26/10/18. kjharris Posted 6 August , 2019 Share Posted 6 August , 2019 I understand that No. 51 General Hospital at Etaples was a specialist venereal disease hospital for allied troops. Must have had a bad dose...
