Mates,

Can you give the make up of the 53rd Turkish Div at the 2nd Battle of Gaza.

The reason is I trying to identify the regt's that faced the attack by the Camel and 163rd Brigades on the 19th April 1917. In particular the units which held the redougts later know to us as the Tank Redoubt and the Jack and Jill Redoubts.

The records show only the 53rd Div plus two Bn's of the 79th Regt, but they held a wide area of front and there is no mention of what regts held what.

Thanks for any help

I'm sure I have seen a post with details of this type, I have tried a search "Gaza" and it had some details but you may wish to ocntact some of the people from these threads as they could be your best bet.

Ozgur could be the chap you're after. He gave me a very full reply to a post I raised on Turkish OOb's a few weeks ago. If you want to search for that thread try "Turkish OOB's" - it's in the Other Theatres section.

In the meantime I'll see if I have anything that may help.

Thanks Mate,

Yes I saw the 53rd Turkish Div's ORbat there and was after how it was laid out on the ground on the 19th April 1917.

The 53rd Div appears to have some four major redoubts to look after on that day and it would seem possible that one regt looked after one redoubt each. But of cause which regts had what is always been my problem.

Hopefully one of our mates with the Turkish records may be able to shed some light on this.
