Dolphin Posted 18 April , 2004 Share Posted 18 April , 2004 2Lt F J Paget was the observer in DH9 D1015 of No 206 Sqn RAF, with 2Lt J F S Percival as his pilot, when fatally wounded in action on 1 August, dying on 6 August. The crew were credited with bringing down enemy aircraft (both Pfalz D.IIIs) on 29 July and 1 August. 2Lt Percival was unhurt. FSL W Houston-Stewart was the pilot of DH4 N5963 of No 2 Sqn RNAS, with Sub Lt CL Haines as his observer, when killed in action on 26 May 1917. They were escorting DH4 3696 (the prototype) on a reconnaisance mission over Ostend and were last seen over Oosduinkerke Bains a mile behind 3696 and heading for shore. 2Lt F W Baillie was killed in an accident when flying Camel E1572 of No 42 Training Depot Station, Hounslow, on 15 September 1918. The aircraft's wings folded at 2000 feet. 2Lt J J Nichols was the observer in DH9 D7249 of No 103 Sqn RAF, with Lt G B Hett as his pilot, when killed in action on 30 October 1918. They were returning from a low level raid on Roubaix aerodrome when engaged in combat which saw them credited with shooting down two Fokker D.VIIs. 2Lt Nicholls was fatally wounded in this action and died the next day. I hope this helps.
Northern Soul Posted 18 April , 2004 Author Share Posted 18 April , 2004 Mark/Dolphin- many thanks guys. A brilliant response ! Can I also trouble you look up 2/Lt. G. E. Satterthwaite, 20th Training Wing, d. 11/6/18? Am I correct in thinking that the Airmen Died CD can be searched by place-name? If so, please could you look up "Millom" and tell me the names of anyone listed originating from there? Cheers. Andy.
Brigantian Posted 18 April , 2004 Share Posted 18 April , 2004 Andy, Airmen Died in the Great War has: 2/Lt. George Edward Satterthwaite, age 28, native of Barrow-in-Furness, pilot, 22 Training Squadron, killed in Egypt on 11/6/18 whilst flying Avro 504A A8544. He was flying with a 2 Lt J Acheson who was injured. Unfortunately, I only have a hard copy of Airmen Died and therefore cannot search on locations.
