Philip Wilson Posted 7 May , 2010 Share Posted 7 May , 2010 The above picture is more likely to have been taken at Beersheba on 31 October, 1917. An identical picture can be found on page 42 of Pte Burbage's diary with the caption 'Turkish Prisoners at Beersheba.' In the background there are a considerable number of camels which are not in evidence in the photos taken following the 'Affair of Huj' 8th November 1917. According to WY Regimental History about 100 prisoners were brought into Brigade HQ on the 9th November, including seven officers, and an officer's wife, a Syrian lady. This lady features in the novel 'The Last Crusade' by Colin Smith which puts the reader on the receiving end of an unsupported cavalry charge at Huj.
