I see that in  the Tatler article (August 1915), she is loyally described as the wife of Major R. Abingdon Bayly.

We can presume then that at the time of publication she had received no reply to her 'Dear Bill' letter although in fairness, that was only in June.

As for being told a load of bunkum* by a 'psychic' about her husband's disappearance......

Abingdon Robert Bayly (40) married Viola Yvonne Mary Kathleen Loscombe-Wallis (22) on 08 February 1912 at St George Hanover Square Register Office.

 

Divorce papers at The National Archives and on ancestry.

Petition Filed:  1 December 1915

Cause Set Down:  31 May 1916

Decree Nisi:  10 November 1916

Final Decree:  22 May 1917

 

Abingdon Robert Bayly died in Switzerland on 13 February 1952. Probate granted to Daphne Mary Berent married woman. (His daughter - Yvonne Mary Daphne Abingdon Bayly - married Herbert S Berent. Marriage registered Jan-Feb-Mar 1936).

I wonder if G. Keen, described as a wounded officer, was an alias?

 

The other co-respondent in the divorce was "Alistair J Caird", which could be Major Alister James Henryson-Caird M.C., 3rd KOSB.  He was reported as wounded in the shoulder in October 1914, and was recovering in hospital in Dover.
