bigalni Posted 13 April , 2004 Share Posted 13 April , 2004 Im attaching a photograph ive obtained of a not so happy Sgt getting married to a very happy looking young lady. I know little of RAF/RFC uniforms but would i be correct in saying this chap would be early RAF with the trousers ,puttees style of jacket etc? Any comments on his medals.?..not too distinct im afraid! The pic is annotated "From Gertie and Billy". Anyone recognise Billy? Alan

Guest Pete Wood Posted 13 April , 2004 Share Posted 13 April , 2004 Drat. LH is a London registration issued between 1916-20. Sadly, the London registration records have been destroyed. If they had survived, you could see who owned the car (and the district in which it was used). So London (and maybe home counties) is the area in which the photo was taken. Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 13 April , 2004 Share Posted 13 April , 2004 RAF uniform of the mid 20s to early 30s. The ladies wedding dress, head dress and shoes date it to the late 1920s. Ian
perce620 Posted 14 April , 2004 Share Posted 14 April , 2004 Alan Blue RAF uniform first issued for other ranks in 1919, with tunic, breeches, puttees and black ankle boots. White shirt was worn with the uniform until the more traditional colour was introduced in 1936,Eagles were issued for wear in 1919 to replace shoulder titles and are a link to the RNAS days.(the eagles were got rid of in 1978 ut we now wear them again on our No1 uniform reintroduced about 5 years ago).So his medal ribbons probably for service in RFC or RNAS appear to be 15 star but willing to be corrected on this
