Moonraker Posted 4 July , 2010 Share Posted 4 July , 2010 Owen Rutter, an officer in the 7th Wiltshire, wrote a long, acclaimed poem in the rhythm of Hiawatha, and called The Song of Tiadatha describing an infantry subaltern’s training and the Salonika Campaign. The central character, Tiadatha ("Tired Arthur") was "a sort of composite of my brother officers"). Search the Forum for "Tiadatha" for more details. And for another thread on Salonika literature see here Moonraker

centurion Posted 5 July , 2010 Share Posted 5 July , 2010 To get the confused political background try First Athenian Memories (1931) and Greek Memories (1932) by Compton Mackenzie otherwise known as Z who ended the war as Director of the Aegean Intelligence Service I picked up a first edition Athenian Memories in Hay on Wye for a fiver. It really does illustrate the total lack of any coherent British policy in Greece
