Desmond7 Posted 4 April , 2004 Share Posted 4 April , 2004 Sgt. Harry Carson, Rifle Brigade, 'sniped' at Ypres, 'explosive bullet' in shoulder plus fingeron left hand had to be amputated. Had served in South African war. Joined Rifle Brigade as private soldier, promoted to Sgt. refused commission. Apparently he was the son of the famous Sir Edward Carson! Only found these little details in old newspaper. Love to hear more about this guy. Des
Guest Desmond6 Posted 4 April , 2004 Share Posted 4 April , 2004 Ooops should have said this was in late 1917 - and that Carson was irish Unionist leader and a member of the war cabinet. Would that have made his son the lowest ranking serving son of a cabinet level politician? Forgive my guesswork but I would assume most offspring off politcos at that level would have been officers? marina Posted 22 February , 2005 Share Posted 22 February , 2005 http://www.proni.gov.uk/records/private/carson.htm Scroll down to the fifth article - a wee snippet about Carson's family. Married twice - and it looks like henry was a son of the first marriage. But it isn;t clear whether he predeceased his father or not... larneman Posted 22 February , 2005 Share Posted 22 February , 2005 Nice picture, DES. Wonder if anybody still knows who Ulster was going fight outside the members from the North. I still find that slogan a paradox or is it that strange word that means even if you achieve victory you have destroyed yourself doing so. It is on the point of my tongue. I loved words like that in yester year. No need to tell anybody, we will leave the politic's at the front door. Liam Stoater call Are giving away your age or do they still use these sayings.
