JimSmithson Posted 1 May , 2009 Share Posted 1 May , 2009 Hi Wayne You probably didn't get many replies to this because you are off the beaten track somewhat, north east of Bapaume. You have not said what period your Great great Uncle was there, was he in the capture of Bapaume after the German withdrawal in 1917 of the German attack in 1918 or later? Here is a modern map of the area to get your bearings. Velu wood is top right, Ytres is bottom right and Barastre left centre (note spellings a little different). Bapaume is just off the map to the east. There are not many trench maps for the area and, as usual, your area is not all on one. I will post a few as I can.
