Artefacts deteriotate in the earth leaving much less chance of finding inscriptions, etc. If you search the Forum on say, "archaeology", you'll come across a number of threads. He is from the Diggers and to my knowledge he has found over 180 soldiers and never found the identity of one, and that's not from the lack of trying.
