NeilEvans Posted 12 March , 2009 Share Posted 12 March , 2009 Again, back to Condover Memorial. Thomas Hedley Whiteman. Born 1900, Reading to William and Rosa Whiteman. 1911 Census shows the family living near Condover. As this is the only T. Whiteman in the area, i've no doubt this in the chap in question. Trouble is i can't find him on CWGC, SDGW and Ancestry military records. I've also checked the UK deaths index with no luck. If a member with access to the Oversea's Death Index, could you please look him up? if the's there. Neil Evans

John_Hartley Posted 12 March , 2009 Share Posted 12 March , 2009 No-one obvious Neil. Have checked the Overseas GRO for Whiteman and Whitman in Soldiers, Officers & Naval. There's two T Whiteman and one Whitman - all three listed on CWGC. Maybe died in Ireland?
grantowi Posted 12 March , 2009 Share Posted 12 March , 2009 ..Or Scotland "ScotlandsPeople" show 9 WHITEMAN deaths between 1914 and 1922, but you have to register and pay to view them where does the census say your man was born ? I too can only find the 3 men that John has found in the GRO list Also there are no Thomas H WHITEMAN on TNA MIC list Grant

David Porter Posted 13 March , 2009 Share Posted 13 March , 2009 Neil, Maybe the man you have found is not the right T. Whiteman. There is a Thomas Hedley Whiteman mentioned in the New Years Honours List 1964. As Chief Designer (Marine) Transport Equipment (Thorneycroft) Ltd. Basingstoke he got an M.B.E. See London Gazette Issue 43200 published on the 31 December 1963. Page 19 of 34 David
John_Hartley Posted 13 March , 2009 Share Posted 13 March , 2009 David's "find" might be a good one - MBE recipient would be getting his award just before he retired. It'd fit. But might be a son/nephew, of course. As earch of the Basignstoke area local newspaper to see a report of the award might give a clue as to his age, etc. John
apwright Posted 13 March , 2009 Share Posted 13 March , 2009 Thomas Hedley WHITEMAN, born 11 Feb 1900, died in C. Cleveland district Jul-Aug-Sep 1983 (Vol. 3 Page 1864). Adrian
NeilEvans Posted 13 March , 2009 Author Share Posted 13 March , 2009 oh eck! which Thomas Whiteman is it! Neil
John_Hartley Posted 13 March , 2009 Share Posted 13 March , 2009 Neil It's beginning to look like you've got a man who was not well dead. Adrian's info looks pretty convincing. Or you've got another Whiteman commemorated who was not obviously local. Maybe worked briefly in the area or commemorated by a relative or similar. I have a number of Stockport chaps like that.
