This is the only J Tripney I can find on CWGC, do you think this could be your man?

Mike

tinhat, thanks mike. this could be our man.we visited this cemetery last year .two year previously we had gone to THIEPVAL and found the same name .tomorrow will be meeting my mates[TRIPNEY]. unfortunately it is at a funeral, but like all good scottish funerals we will be having a drink afterwards and i will pass on the info you have given me.i will get back to you when i talk to them .in the meantime thanks.

I didn't find any Tripney on the Thiepval Memorial list at CWGC ! Page 144 of the names S to V has no entry for this surname.

There was only one TRIPNEY on the CWGC and that is confirming yours and Skipman's comments, out of interest there are two other James TRIPNEY in the MICS,one a Royal Scot 2406,has two cards, and the other an RE Sapper 61433.

No James Tripneys in:

Royal Marines Service Records

Registers of Seamen's Services (there was a David born in Broxburn Linlithgow)

Royal Naval Division service records (there was a John)

Royal Naval Officers' Service Records

RNVR service records from WW1
