Edward_N_Kelly Posted 28 March , 2004 Share Posted 28 March , 2004 A couple of points.... Not made of copper (it would deform and be very expensive). It is made of cast iron - the coppery tint is actually rust ! As to its origin, it is US in origin (as indicated by the AN - Army Navy - designation), though the use of Mk would indicate USN origin rather than US Army or US Air Force origin but they used common stores during the days of WW2 and later. At a guess I would say WW2 or later manufacture up to around 1960 or so simulating bombs from slower aircraft (propellor driven or early jet)..... And little used because these bombs do suffer damage after several uses if they are recovered.... Edward
Guest jdlejeune Posted 30 August , 2007 Share Posted 30 August , 2007 Hello. I was hoping someone could help me to identify an old round I inherited from my grandfather. It is marked "MK23MOD1" without the AD or dashes mentioned in the above post. It looks similar to this but has a metal band around the fins. http://www.beaufort-county.com/Washington/...racticebomb.jpg Thanks a lot for your help
