MrG Posted 1 March , 2009 Share Posted 1 March , 2009 I am trying to find out something on the service of William Hilton who served sequentially in the Y&L (Private 1792) the Labour Corps (Pte 470393) and the 44th Bn Royal Fusiliers (L/Cpl 125111) I understand that the 44th RF were formed in late 1918 from Labour Corp personnel and I know that William was in 914 Garrison Guard Company so this fits. I intend to ask Ivor Lee for help with this once he returns to the forum post book deadline. My guess is that he ended up in the Lab Corps after perhaps being wounded in the Y&L but I cannot find any service records in Ancestry to help. Any Y&L experts out there with a bit more info? Battalion for instance? Just to be clear he survived the war and (wait for it) married my brother in law's grandfathers widow...who was also his sister-in-law! (he was my brother-in-law's grandfathers step-brother!!!) Thanks for any help. Rgds Merve

MrG Posted 2 March , 2009 Author Share Posted 2 March , 2009 Thanks for the info so far. One more bit of info from MC. William entered France 14 April 1915 which to me suggests 1/5th or 15thth Y&L. Is this a reasonable assumption? Merve
