Begeant Posted 1 March , 2009 Share Posted 1 March , 2009 I'm researching Private 24841 John ROSSER of the 1st Northants who was killed in action on 16th August 1916. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. Question is where was his battalion on the day he was killed, and where may he have been killed? jay dubaya Posted 1 March , 2009 Share Posted 1 March , 2009 Hi Moulsham here's an extract from Westlake's 'Batalions on the Somme' 'C' and 'D' Companies attacked and captured part of new German trench running westwards across Bazentin-le-Petit Road from High Wood (16/8). New line held against counter attacks and subsequently named 'Clark's Trench' after officer in command of position. Jon

Stebie9173 Posted 1 March , 2009 Share Posted 1 March , 2009 The Battalion history has a few paragraphs regarding that time. I'll try and transcribe them. Steve.
