Adam Harland Posted 22 February , 2009 Share Posted 22 February , 2009 HERRIOT Initials: A Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Corporal Regiment/Service: Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) Unit Text: 9th Bn. Date of Death: 27/09/1917 Service No: S/4192 Additional information: Son of Mr. J. Herriot, of Harbour House, Morrison Haven, Prestonpans, East Lothian. Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: I. D. 42. Cemetery: LEVEL CROSSING CEMETERY, FAMPOUX The Battn was part of 15th Scottish Div, who were posted to the Arras sector at the beginning of Sept 1917. The Div history decribes the period as being 'quiet', although there were a number of raids. The epriod was mainly used in training, especially for officers, amongst whom there had been heavy casualties at Arras and Picklem Ypres during that year. This is also reflected in the Wauchope History of ther BW in WW1. They were posted just north of the Scarpe, pretty much across the river from where they had fought in the April battle.
