Hi David,

The Battalion war diary can be found at the PRO under Referenceno. WO95/2366.

This covers the period May 1918 to May 1919 and should include details of the action in which your relative was lost. If you check the MIC Card Index it may state the date he was posted overseas. You can then back track throught the diary to see where he would have served (excluding any leave he may have been granted).

If you contact the regimental museum they may be able to find something about his Brigade/Division in the Regimental history, but this is very unlikely to mention him by name.

Here are a few details about the Divison/Brigade

12th (Ayr & Lanark Yeomanry) Battalion

Formed in Egypt on 14 January 1917, from dismounted yeomanry, and placed in 229th Brigade, 74th Division.

1 May 1918 : embarked at Alexandria, for Marseilles, landing 7 May.

21 June 1918 : attached to 94th Brigade, 31st Division.

31st Division (Actions June - Oct 1918)

Action of La Becque. 28 Jun 1918.

Advance in Flanders. 18 Aug-6 Sep 1918.

Battle of Ypres. 28 Sep-2 Oct 1918.

94th Brigade.

(The Brigade was broken up on 17 Feb 1918 and was reformed on 30 May 1918 with Training Cadres. The Brigade was fully reconstituted on 21 Jun 1918 and was renamed the 94th (Yeomanry) Brigade).

12th Bn Norfolk Regt. 21 Jun 1918 - 11 Nov 1918.

12th Bn Royal Scots Fusiliers. 21 Jun 1918 - 11 Nov 1918.

24th Bn Royal Welsh Fusiliers. 21 Jun 1918 - 1 Nov 1918.

Hope this helps.
