Remembered Today:

New Release of Documents (albeit 2011)

I have just had an email from the FindMyPast website to say that (along with The NA), they are scanning WO documents Royal Hospital Chelsea Soldiers Service Documents 1760-1913 AND WO96 papers War Office Militia Attestion Papers 1806-1915. These documents are being scanned and they hope to have both these sets in their entirety by 2011. Around 9 million records will be available, searchable by name.

Great news (i hope and pray) and that it is done properly and accurately.

Thanks for the update on this. I knew they were coming but now at least we have a date.

Would be better if they were with Ancestry as their search engine is more robust, but at least we're getting them available remotely.

Any chance you have an email address from this email to post comments- it's going to be quite important that they index these by regiment as well so we'd better bombard them with that request?

Best regards,

Matthew

Matthew,

I agree with you. You can email them at info@findmypast.com

They also say that while this scanning is taking place (in batches), these records wont be available for viewing at the NA.

So it would be advisable to check the NA Website or contact them first.

Regards Frances

Frances,

Findmypast has a blog. The blog has reported the new releases.

It might be worth putting requests etc to the blog
