raich Posted 13 February , 2009 Share Posted 13 February , 2009 I'm seeking to know the location of K4 at Festubert as I'm trying to trace the 5th Canadian taking the K5 and K4 strongpoints on the 24th May 1915. If anyone can help me I'd appreciate it. Cheers

JimSmithson Posted 14 February , 2009 Share Posted 14 February , 2009 This is not easy! The only map I can find, apart from a trace from September (made for the battle of Loos) is this one from November. I have tried to estimate where K4 is on the Canadian map and have planted a flag in the Linesman image of where I think it is. Of course by this time it is behind the Allied lines. Maybe someone else has an earlier map with the July lines on but I can't find one anywhere. I'm off to France tomorrow where my books are; I'll have a longer look there. laughton Posted 17 February , 2009 Share Posted 17 February , 2009 You will find details of K.5 in Nicholson's Chapter IV "Festubert and Givenchy, 1915". Nicholson Matrix for K.5 Even the men were confused by the location. If you look at MAP 2 you will see K5 marked just between the blue ink shows the German 56th and 57th Infantry Regiments (Stutzpunkt). Richard Thanks Richard, Since posting the thread I learnt that K4 is closer to the allies line than K5 by a "bit" (technical term). thanks all for your help.
