spoons Posted 11 February , 2009 Share Posted 11 February , 2009 I was browsing the WW1 Service Records on Ancestry and came across William Carmichael, KOSB (Regimental Number 6421), enlisted in 1898 and died in 1900 at Bloemfontein. So in what sense is this a "WW1 Service Record"? \Spoons
Michael Johnson Posted 11 February , 2009 Share Posted 11 February , 2009 There are pre-1914 service records mixed in.

spoons Posted 11 February , 2009 Author Share Posted 11 February , 2009 Thanks all. No special interest in this man, just wondered why his record was in the WW1 Service Records file on Ancestry. I wasn't aware that these included some pre-war records. I don't suppose many other people are either. \Spoons
Northern Soul Posted 12 February , 2009 Share Posted 12 February , 2009 Hes in Grave No 918. Church of England Old Cemetery Bloemfontein 918 L/Cpl W.Carmichael K.O.S.B. 18/6/1900. I'm interested in where that information came from. I'm looking for the burial location of Wm. Kinght (St. John Vol. Ambulance Corps) who reportedly died at Bloemfontein in 1900. Any ideas? Cheers. Andy.
Terry Denham Posted 12 February , 2009 Share Posted 12 February , 2009 Pte William Knight is buried in President Avenue Cemetery, Bloemfontein. Died of disease. Died 27.06.1900 Source: 'In memoriam. Roll of Honour Imperial Forces. Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902' by Steve Watt. This contains the resting place and other details of over 25000 British servicemen who died in that war. spoons Posted 21 March , 2009 Author Share Posted 21 March , 2009 I actually found some older records than that. For example there is a record for Joseph Elliott who enlisted in 1854 and died in 1880. Only a very few records of this age, but interesting nonetheless. \Spoons
