bmac Posted 6 February , 2009 Share Posted 6 February , 2009 2nd Lt Francis Hubert Freeman, 19th Lancs Fus, is on CWGC as died 1st July 1916 but he is not listed amongst the officers of the 19th Lancashire Fusiliers who went into action, nor in their casualty list. Perhaps a Machine Gun Company or Trench Mortar Battery attachment? Might anyone happen to know?
sotonmate Posted 6 February , 2009 Share Posted 6 February , 2009 bmac There is one service file at Kew for a 2/Lt F H FREEMAN in WO339/38774. This should show which unit he was with. Sotonmate
PhilB Posted 6 February , 2009 Share Posted 6 February , 2009 As you probably know, he`s listed with the LFs in Officers Died in the Great War. (KIA 1/7/16, 19 Bn)
bmac Posted 6 February , 2009 Author Share Posted 6 February , 2009 Hoping to avoid using up an order for one officer's file. You never know your luck, someone might happen to know (though I now know he's not mentioned in the 14th Brigade MGC diary for 1st July - as I work my way through the 1,565 photographs I have taken on my last two visits. Photo 801 currently being transcribed!)
