robertb Posted 22 March , 2004 Share Posted 22 March , 2004 Hi. There are a number of French Naval Graves from the Great War in Cathays Cemetery, Cardiff. Does anyone have any idea why they should be there? Regards, Rob
Terry Denham Posted 22 March , 2004 Share Posted 22 March , 2004 These graves date from 1914 to 1920 and so suggest that there was a French naval presence throughout the war in the area. They are all French Navy rather than merchant navy. It is unlikely that these graves were all seamen washed ashore.
robertb Posted 23 March , 2004 Author Share Posted 23 March , 2004 Terry, These are French Military Naval Graves. The French Consul unveiled a plaque to them last year, so I believe. Photographs will be posted on the weekend relating to the plaque and graves. Regards, Rob
