sage1957 Posted 19 January , 2009 Share Posted 19 January , 2009 Just received a birth certificate from Belfast for one of my relatives. I knew he was an Armourer Serjeant based in Belfast but I was hoping the BC would give his full regiment, alas, It has only "28th Regt Belfast Barracks" looking up Google I find it could well be the 28th regt Foot Gloucestershire. The birth date is given 14th May 1868, would there be anyway of finding out if the 28th regt was the Gloucestershire Foot please (Or not as the case may be please) Kind regards. Sage. sotonmate Posted 19 January , 2009 Share Posted 19 January , 2009 Sage Yes 28th is (North) Gloucestershire. You can always find this out on the Long Long Trail by opening Infantry Regiments and counting down the right (precedents) column,Gloucesters are the 28th one. Glosters Posted 20 January , 2009 Share Posted 20 January , 2009 The 28th Foot were in Ireland from 1866 to 1868, when it moved to Gibraltar. They moved into the barracks at Belfast 5 December 1867 and sailed from Belfast 22 September 1868. Steve
