Syndney Harry Howard (from Burton on Trent) 154716 Royal Engineers

Sydney survived the war and returned home to Burton.

I have a diary note which shows "Royal engineers" 300th Electrical and Mechanical Corp. Indian exped. Force.

The diary records the departure (16th July 1917) from Newark (Nottinghamshire) to Baghdad (21st August 1917)

I have a number of Photo's showing Baghdad in 1917-18 including the interior of the power station where I believe Sydney was working

I have very little apart from this information, can anyone help with any pointers to finding the service history and any information on the unit please.

In addition to the pictures of Baghdad I also have the following;

A post card showing the ss Briton troopship which transported Sydney Howard to Mesopotamia.

A Xmas greeting from baghdad in the form of a card with a printed medal listing the battles on the "ribbon" the printed message is;

This medal of ours with its ribbon and bars

Tells of crushing defeats of the crescent and star

Tis a pleasant reminder to friends far away

That more than one Turkey is rueing the day.

Baghdad Xmas 1917

also

A two sided seasons greeting from Mesopotamia 1917-1918 with a map on the reverse.

I can scan them and post them on the forum if anyone is interested.

Regards

Phil
