Hywyn Posted 15 January , 2009 Share Posted 15 January , 2009 Interesting that Pte Thomas has no Service number or full first name. Is this normal. Have you any ideas of the circumstances Terry? ( possibles on Medals. 3 of which have a middle name) Hywyn
MelPack Posted 15 January , 2009 Share Posted 15 January , 2009 Terry Great news! It is a tribute to the work of the forum that MarkP has found his missing man on the Blewbury memorial, the Regimental Museum have found their drummer and Leonard is now commemorated with his two brothers. Many thanks for all your efforts. regards Mel
Terry Denham Posted 15 January , 2009 Author Share Posted 15 January , 2009 Hywyn I did not process this one so I don't know. I have asked if there is a number as it may simply have been omitted in error. However, it does occur. I have had one case where no document actually shows the man's number and no amount of research by myself, CWGC or MoD could find it. It all depends on what surviving documents you have. Also many men are recorded without their full first name. I can remember trying to trace the name of an 'H.Smith' for years. Every document including the death certificate bore only 'H'. I did find it eventually when the coroner's records went online (Harry).

Hywyn Posted 15 January , 2009 Share Posted 15 January , 2009 Thanks Terry. I see I didn't put the number of possibles in the medals. It's 8. Your reply has prompted another question though. Coroners Records online. Do you have a link? Hywyn
