I have managed to find my Grandather Serjeant William Robert Dodd MM 2102 York and Lancaster Regiment 1st/4th Bn KIA 3/7/1916 on the CWGC but have not been able find out anything else.

Any help or suggestions would be really appreciated about Medal or how he won it.

Click on the Long, Long Trail at the top left of this page and then click on Grandad's War.

This will give you a good start in your research. Warning - You are probably at the beginning of a long, interesting, sometimes frustrating, enjoyable and rewarding journey!

Hi Malc

Welcome to the Forum, The only additions on the Soldiers Died in the Great War CD are that Sgt Dodd was born in Crookesmoor, Sheffield, and that he enlisted in Sheffield. The Battalion is shown as 1/4th (Hallamshire)(T.F.) Battalion.

Thankyou to both Steve and Terry and for welcoming me to the Forum.

This is a first for me so lets hope if I can be of help to someone else or contribute then I will. I am now off onto the London Gazette to see what I can find.

thanks again
