wulsten Posted 21 December , 2008 Share Posted 21 December , 2008 Two individuals listed on Wolstanton Cenotaph as J Mander & W Townsend, from the local newspaper of the period they are listed as John Mander & William Townsend, however i cannot dind any connection to the locality of Wolstanton Newcastle or stoke on trent, cwgc & sdgw info is not conclusive, would the GRO indices giwe any connection or new lead to take, any help appreciated
John_Hartley Posted 21 December , 2008 Share Posted 21 December , 2008 GRO would only give name, rank, service number, regiment, year of death and GRO death certificate reference.Nothing, I'm afraid, to tie them to a locality. When you mention newspapers of the period, is this from when the cenotaph was unveiled or from possible years of death? John

John, thanks for the reply the naming was when the cenotaph was unveiled there are a couple of names that were added after 1921 but John Mander & Willian Townsend were part of the original listing prior to 1919, have scoured the newspapers, service papers etc but drawn a blank, was wondering if there was a way to find a date of death relating to the vicinity of Stoke on trent or cheadle even, to give a lead to possibly obtaining death cert etc
