We are searching for information about 10th Battalion QRWS on 26 March 1918, when Private Charles Edward White T/207895 was killed. The battalion war diary for 21st March states: "A separate account is attached on the operations from March 22nd up to the night of 29/30th March." But unfortunately this separate account seems to be missing, both from the original at Kew and the online typed version via Surrey archive website.

Has anyone any information or has come across any references to what happened to 10th Battalion QRWS on 26 March 1918 please, or could suggest ways of trying to find out where the missing account for these dates might be? Many thanks.

Hi - thanks for the suggestion. Do you know where these might be accessed please? (Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm relatively new to this and haven't discovered these yet.)

Thanks for your help.

Hi

The records will be kept at Kew. I'm sure someone here can give you the file numbers for the relevant Brigade and Division. You can then get copies online

Hope you have success

Regards

Martin

Hi

I have already been to Kew and looked at both the online version and the original documents under WO 95/2643

for 41 Division, 124 Infantry Brigade, 10 Battalion Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment) to no avail.

I'm not clear whether these documents under WO 95/2643 are the Regiment diaries, or the Brigade or the Division. I had assumed they were the regiment diaries. (?)

Thanks again.

Success!

Have looked online at Kew, under the 41 Division, 124 Infantry Brigade, and the relevant pages are with an appendix attached to the 26 Batt. Royal Fusiliers. The 10th Batt. QRWS are mentioned in the document, and it covers the right dates, so it gives us the information we needed.

Many thanks for your comments which encouraged me to persist!

... and 14 years later this post helped me find the details of the death of Pvt G/23073 Royal West Surrey who died on the same day and is named on war memorials in Warwick. Thank you
